Red Flags of Sensory Over-Responsivity

 My child is frequently bothered by:

__Fuzzy or furry textures (wool clothing, animal fur, textured blankets

__Mud or glue on his hands

__Crawling or walking barefoot on a coarse carpet or grass

__Feeling crumbs around his mouth

__Having his hair, fingernails, or toenails cut

__Fragrance from perfume or bath products

__Food textures

__Background noises when he is trying to concentrate

__Noise in a restaurant, mall, or large gymnasium

__Any loud unexpected sounds, such as sirens, school bells, an engine backfiring

__Playing on swings and slides

__Bright lights or sunshine

__Being upside down, as when turning a somersault

 

My child’s behaviors frequently include being:

__Aggressive or impulsive when overwhelmed by sensory stimulation

__Irritable, fussy, moody

__Unsociable; avoids group activities and has trouble forming relationships

__Excessively cautious and afraid to try new things

__Upset by transitions and unexpected changes
