Red Flags of Sensory Discrimation Disorder
My child has difficulties with these sensory tasks:
__Telling what is in his hands without looking
__Distinguishing exactly what is touching him and/or where on his body
__Judging how much force is required for a task, such as how firmly to hold a pencil
__Detecting whether or not he is in motion
__Identifying and distinguishing between different sounds
__Hearing what is said to him if there is background noise
__Finding his way around buildings and other environments
__Recognizing objects by their shape
__Organizing writing on a page, such as spacing between letters or words
__Seating self in chair; may overshoot or sit too hard
__Differentiating textures of food
__Differentiating smells
My child’s behaviors frequently include:
__Difficulty following directions; gets lost easily
__Aversion to playing with puzzles or other visual games
__Frustration when unable to differentiate visual or auditory signals
__A need for directions to be repeated
__A need for more time than other children to perform assigned task
