Albert Tomatis - Listening & Learning - Theories - Research - Sound Therapy
A specific type of sound therapy has been shown to be effective in alleviating problems associated with learning disabilities, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Autism. Individuals struggling with depression and anxiety have also been helped. This therapy is based upon the work of a French physician by the name of AlfredTomatis. Dr. Tomatis was an ear, nose, and throat specialist whose father was an opera singer. The combination of his musical background and his medical training, caused him to wonder if there was a connection between the functioning of the ears and how we experience the world. From this basic question, he developed remarkable sound therapies that stimulated the inner ears and that positively impacted thousands of individuals.
In a nutshell, the therapy consists of listening to modified music designed to stimulate the eardrums for approximately 30 minutes per day. This music is provided through Advanced Brain Technologies. (www.advancedbrain.com) It is necessary to listen to the music through high quality headphones and a high definition CD player.
The therapy is individualized for each individual. The progress is monitored by the sound therapist.
